Istanbul Had My Whole Heart

If someone asks me which family trip I'll never stop talking about, it's definitely Istanbul.

I honestly didn't know what to expect before going. I thought it would just be another beautiful international city, but the moment we landed, it felt completely different. The city has this amazing mix of old-world charm and modern life that somehow works perfectly.

Our mornings usually started with a huge breakfast because Turkish breakfasts are honestly an experience in themselves. Fresh bread, cheeses, olives, fruits, tea... we kept saying we'd eat light and then ended up trying almost everything on the table.

Most of our days were spent just walking. We explored Sultanahmet, admired the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, got lost in little streets, and somehow discovered cute cafés every few minutes. My family kept saying, "Let's keep walking, we'll find something," and surprisingly, that worked every single time.

The Grand Bazaar was pure chaos—but the fun kind. My parents loved bargaining with the shopkeepers like they had been doing it their whole life. Meanwhile, I was busy getting distracted by every colourful Turkish lamp, ceramic plate, and tiny souvenir shop. We definitely came back with more shopping bags than we had planned.

One of my absolute favourite evenings was the Bosphorus Cruise. Watching the sunset while sailing between Europe and Asia honestly felt surreal. The weather was perfect, the city lights slowly started appearing, and for a while, none of us even spoke. We were just enjoying the view.

Food deserves its own paragraph because... wow. Kebabs, baklava, Turkish delight, fresh juices, endless cups of Turkish tea—I don't think we ever had a disappointing meal. Every restaurant somehow became our "best meal of the trip."

The funniest part? Every family photo. We'd finally find the perfect location, set up the camera, and then someone would blink, someone would look away, or someone would already start walking before the timer finished. After about twenty failed attempts, we simply accepted that candid pictures looked much better anyway.

What I loved most about Istanbul wasn't just the famous places. It was sitting at little cafés without checking the time, walking through streets with no fixed destination, watching locals go about their day, and spending uninterrupted time with my family. No work, no rushing—just exploring together.

Istanbul wasn't just another destination I checked off my list. It became one of those places that stayed with me even after I came home. And honestly... I'd book another ticket without thinking twice.
