This trip was technically my didi's plan.

She and her friends had been talking about going to Gokarna for weeks, and somehow I ended up joining them. At first, I thought I'd be the awkward younger sister tagging along... but within a few hours, it honestly felt like I had my own little travel gang.

The drive to Gokarna was beautiful. The roads slowly became quieter, the air felt fresher, and the moment we caught our first glimpse of the sea, everyone rolled down the windows like it was some movie scene. We had music playing, snacks everywhere, and conversations that somehow jumped from childhood memories to completely random gossip.

The thing I loved most about Gokarna was how peaceful it felt. Unlike some of the more crowded beach destinations, everything here seemed slower. Nobody was rushing. Nobody was checking the time. It felt like the kind of place where you could genuinely switch off for a few days.

Every morning started with coffee and a beach walk. We'd all pretend we were going to wake up for sunrise, but somehow only one or two people actually managed it. The rest of us would appear much later claiming, "The sunrise looked nice in your pictures."

We spent hours hopping between beaches, carrying slippers in one hand because none of us actually wanted to wear them on the sand. Half the time we weren't even doing anything special—we were just sitting by the sea, talking about life, laughing at old stories, and watching the waves.

One afternoon we decided to do the beach trek between Kudle Beach and Om Beach. Everyone confidently said, "It's just a short walk."

It definitely wasn't.

By the end of it, we were all pretending to enjoy the trek while secretly looking for the next café to sit down. The reward, though, was absolutely worth it. The ocean views from the cliffs were unreal, and we probably spent an hour just sitting there, taking pictures and enjoying the breeze.

The funniest moment happened while trying to click aesthetic beach photos. My didi and her friends were giving each other full-on photography instructions like they were directing a fashion shoot. Meanwhile, I kept accidentally walking into the background of every picture. At one point, they just accepted that I was going to photobomb everything.

Evenings were honestly my favourite.

We found these tiny cliff-side cafés where we'd order smoothie bowls, seafood, coffee, and desserts that nobody actually had room for. We'd sit there for hours watching the sunset, talking about everything and nothing at the same time.

One evening, it suddenly started drizzling. Instead of running inside, we stayed on the beach anyway. Barefoot, completely soaked, laughing over absolutely nothing. It wasn't planned, it wasn't Instagram-perfect... but it ended up becoming my favourite memory from the whole trip.

Before leaving, we promised we'd be back soon. Whether that actually happens or not, I don't know.

But every time I think about Gokarna, I don't just remember the beaches.

I remember the laughter, the long café conversations, my didi teasing everyone, the endless photos, and how a trip that wasn't even my idea somehow became one of my favourites.

Honestly... I wouldn't mind being invited to their girls' trips a little more often.
