Why Food Is One of the Best Parts of Travelling

Why Food Is One of the Best Parts of Travelling

Let's be honest.

You can visit a beautiful fort, watch a perfect sunset and take 200 photographs at a viewpoint.

But sometimes, the thing you remember most about a trip is the food.

That one breakfast you found by accident.

The street food you had while walking around an old market.

The tiny restaurant someone recommended.

Or that one dish you had no idea about before the trip but ended up ordering again the next day.

Food has a strange way of becoming part of the journey.

You Don't Just Taste a Place, You Experience It

Every destination has its own flavours.

Go to Amritsar and food is deeply connected with the city's culture and hospitality. Visit Kolkata and you'll find an entire food culture built around sweets, fish and street food. In Hyderabad, biryani is almost part of the city's identity. Travel through Rajasthan and you'll discover food that tells you something about the region's climate, traditions and way of life.

The interesting part is that food doesn't always need to be fancy.

Sometimes the best meal is sitting at a small local shop with plastic chairs, watching people go about their day.

No fancy interiors.

No carefully designed menu.

Just good food.

And somehow, you remember that place years later.

Don't Only Look for What You Already Know

One of the easiest ways to make every trip taste the same is to keep ordering what you already eat at home.

Travelling is a good excuse to experiment a little.

Try the local breakfast.

Order something you've never heard of.

Ask a local what they actually eat.

Visit a market instead of only eating at restaurants recommended by travel apps.

You might discover a new favourite.

And even if you don't like it, at least you'll have a story.

Because "I tried it and hated it" is still more interesting than "I went there and ordered the same pizza."

Street Food Deserves a Spot on Your Itinerary

You don't need a separate food tour for every destination.

Sometimes, just walking through a busy market is enough.

You'll find stalls selling snacks, sweets, drinks and regional specialities that you may never see on a regular restaurant menu.

The best part is the atmosphere.

People stopping for a quick bite.

Shopkeepers chatting with regular customers.

The smell of something being freshly prepared.

Someone arguing about whether the stall next door is actually better.

That's the kind of everyday scene that makes a destination feel real.

Of course, choose food stalls sensibly and pay attention to cleanliness and how fresh the food looks.

A memorable food experience shouldn't become a memorable stomach experience.

Food Can Completely Change Your Travel Plan

Sometimes food becomes the reason you visit a particular place.

You might travel to Lucknow because you want to explore its food.

You might plan a Kolkata trip around its famous sweets and street food.

You might add Old Delhi to your itinerary because you want to spend an evening exploring its food lanes.

And that's perfectly fine.

Not every trip needs to be about ticking off monuments.

Sometimes your itinerary can simply be:

Breakfast → explore → snack → explore → lunch → explore → chai → dinner.

Honestly, that's a pretty solid itinerary.

The Best Food Recommendations Usually Come From People

Search engines can tell you which restaurants are popular.

But locals can tell you where they actually eat.

Ask your hotel staff.

Ask your cab driver.

Ask a shopkeeper.

Ask someone who lives there.

You may get five different answers, three arguments and absolutely no consensus.

But somewhere in that conversation, you'll probably find one place worth trying.

And sometimes the recommendation isn't even about the food.

It's about the story behind the place.

Don't Forget the Small Things

When you travel, don't just photograph the main attractions.

Take a picture of the breakfast you randomly discovered.

Save the name of that little café.

Remember what you ordered.

Write down the name of that dessert you can't pronounce but somehow loved.

These details may seem unimportant at the time.

Months later, they'll be the things that bring the trip back.

Because memories aren't always built around landmarks.

Sometimes they're built around a cup of chai.

A plate of momos.

A roadside paratha.

A bowl of something you can't remember how to pronounce.

Or a late-night meal with friends after a very long day.

Food Is Part of Your Travel Story

A trip isn't just the places you visited.

It's also what you ate, where you ate it, who you were with and how you felt at that moment.

That's why food deserves a place in your travel memories.

When you create a journey log on Jyurniq, don't just record where you went.

Record the little things too.

The café you found.

The dish you tried.

The meal everyone kept talking about.

The food you absolutely loved.

And yes, even the food you promised never to order again.

Because years from now, you may forget the exact route you took that afternoon.

But one photograph of that meal might instantly take you back there.

Good food fills your stomach. Great food becomes part of the story.
