Okay so every Navratri, Delhi does the same thing. Hauz Khas. Noida. Gurgaon. Ticketed nights, a DJ drop, someone in a heavy choli who still cannot clap on beat. Cute. Soft life. Not the same as Gujarat Garba.
If you actually want the circle, the dhol, that three hour no break stamina test, you leave the city. South Delhi girl energy, but make it Gujarat. Or Mumbai if you want glam and a boarding pass.
Navratri 2026 is roughly 11 to 19 October, Dussehra on the 20th. Prices below are what is showing for this season on BookMyShow, District, and organiser sites. They move fast and change by night, so treat them as a vibe check, not a screenshot forever.
Pick by mood. Not by what your group chat is forwarding at 1am.
Quick pick by mood
- First timers, easy flights: Ahmedabad
- Traditional circle energy: Vadodara
- Younger, ticketed, fashion forward: Surat
- Folk intensity, Saurashtra: Rajkot
- Glam plus live singer nights: Mumbai
- Temple and devotion over dance floor: Ambaji
1. Ahmedabad
Best first Garba city if you are flying from Delhi. Direct flights, lots of hotels, every flavour on one map. Big grounds, neighbourhood circles, late night mandli energy. UNESCO put Garba of Gujarat on the intangible heritage list. This is the soft landing into that world.
Famous places to go for Garba: Vibrant Navratri at Gujarat University Ground (the big public one people mean when they say Ahmedabad Garba). Ticketed nights also pop up at farms and grounds around Gota, Bopal, Sola, Ognej. Sheri style nights at clubs and farms sell out when singers are announced.
How to get passes: Open BookMyShow, search Navratri Ahmedabad. Most big commercial nights are night by night, not one season pass. Vibrant Navratri also lists on BookMyShow. Buy the night you will actually dance. Screenshots of last year prices will not help you.
What it costs (this season ballpark):
- Vibrant Navratri Garba area from about ₹100 a night (kids or entertainment zones can be free, check the listing)
- Affordable ticketed nights like Prachin Mandli style boards around ₹199
- Mid nights like RaasRatri or Aarambh style events roughly ₹300 to ₹500+
- Bigger named nights from about ₹1,000, premium sheri or farm nights can hit ₹5,000 for a single night
Affordable move: One Vibrant night plus one ₹199 to ₹500 farm or mandli night. Skip the ₹5k flex unless the singer is your whole personality.
Days in the city: Old city pols, Sabarmati Ashram, Adalaj Stepwell, Calico Museum if you can get a slot. Fafda jalebi before you change into the choli. Non negotiable.
Do: Soft shoes. One big ground night and one smaller local circle if you can. Stay near the ground you booked, not “central and we will Uber at midnight.”
Don’t: Land on Ashtami with no hotel. Heels you cannot walk in. The circle does not care about your story.
Best for: First Gujarat Garba. Girls trip. Anyone who wants options without overthinking.
2. Vadodara
This is the one your Gujarati friends mean when they say come properly. Big traditional circles, dress codes that are not a suggestion, and seasons where boys passes close before you have even opened the group chat.
Famous places to go for Garba: United Garba Mahotsav at M M Patel Farm, Atladara (the giant one, Atul Purohit energy). Lukshmi Vilas Palace Heritage Garba if you want the palace backdrop flex. Navlakhi Ground for the more everyday city festival vibe. BRG’s Vadodara Vibrant Navratri if you want organised and a bit lighter on girls tickets.
How to get passes: United is not BookMyShow. Go to unitedgarbamahotsav.org, pay, then use their app for the QR e-pass. No screenshot entry. Traditional attire compulsory. Most other Vadodara nights are on BookMyShow or the organiser site. Buy early. Boys categories at big grounds close first.
What it costs (this season ballpark):
- United Garba Mahotsav girls registration around ₹2,400 (boys often closed by the time you check)
- Affordable city option: Vadodara Navratri Festival at Navlakhi Ground, season player passes from about ₹499 for women, roughly ₹2,500 to ₹3,000 for men or male students
- BRG Vibrant season passes around ₹750 women / ₹3,200 men
- Palace heritage player passes roughly ₹2,600 women / ₹6,000 men, premium nights go much higher
- AC dome style season passes can sit around ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 depending on gender tier
Affordable move: Navlakhi Ground season pass if you want nine nights without burning a Hauz Khas weekend budget. Save United or palace for one proper flex if money allows.
Days in the city: Laxmi Vilas Palace, Sayaji Baug, Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, local markets. Then dance. That is the holiday.
Do: Read the dress code before you pack. Stretch. You will feel it the next morning.
Don’t: Show up club casual at a traditional ground. Or assume you can buy United at the gate.
Best for: People who actually want to dance for hours, not just get photos and leave by 11.
3. Surat
Surat is the contemporary cousin. Ticketed nights, younger crowds, textile city fashion energy. Think AC domes, productions, Vesu Adajan Piplod logistics.
Famous places to go for Garba: Sarsana AC Dome for big indoor productions (OG Navratri style nights). Magob and Dumas Road venues for premium singer nights like Nav Avsar / Shubh Avsar type events. Also check BookMyShow Surat for whatever is selling that week around Vesu and Piplod.
How to get passes: BookMyShow first. Some premium nights also sell on their own site or Instagram. Season passes exist here more than in Ahmedabad, so if you are staying the whole Navratri, do the maths before buying nine single nights.
What it costs (this season ballpark):
- Premium single day player or viewer passes from about ₹899, climbing to ₹1,700 to ₹3,900 once buffet and peak nights kick in
- Season style passes on big branded nights can sit around ₹21,000 to ₹25,000 if you are doing the full premium track
- Cheaper local and mid ticketed nights still show up on BookMyShow under ₹1,000. Dig before you default to the dome
Affordable move: One or two good single nights, not the full season flex. Shop fabric markets in the day. Your choli budget will thank you.
Days in the city: Food crawl, textile shopping, Dumas Beach if you need air, Dutch Garden or Surat Castle if you want a little history between naps.
Do: Match the venue to your group’s stamina and budget. AC dome nights run long.
Don’t: Assume ticketed means you can skip festive wear. Most still want you dressed.
Best for: Friend groups who want high production without Mumbai prices.
4. Rajkot
If Ahmedabad is the starter pack, Rajkot is the deep cut. Community nights, folk patterns, taali Garba that moves fast. Less English speaking BookMyShow everything ease. That is part of why it is good.
Famous places to go for Garba: Race Course Ground (Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground side) for the big public energy, Sahiyar Club style rasotsav, Abtak Surbhi type nights. Shastri Maidan for Bamboo Beats and other Mahotsav boards. Also ask locals which residential circle is open that night. That is often the real memory.
How to get passes: BookMyShow, District, TixiGO, and organiser sites all show up here. Club rasotsavs sometimes sell early bird season passes on their own site. Do not wait till you land.
What it costs (this season ballpark):
- Entry level Race Course nights from about ₹299 to ₹450 a night
- Bamboo Beats style boards from roughly ₹399 single, season early bird around ₹1,499 per person (couple or group packs cheaper per head)
- Bigger named Race Course nights from about ₹700 upwards
Affordable move: This is already one of the kinder cities on the wallet. Grab a ₹300 to ₹700 night, eat Gujarati snacks between sets, sleep when you can.
Days in the city: Kaba Gandhi No Delo, Watson Museum, Rotary Dolls Museum if you are that person. Or use Rajkot as a base and day trip toward Junagadh or Somnath if you have leave.
Do: One organised ground plus one neighbourhood circle. Soft shoes again. Always soft shoes.
Don’t: Expect Ahmedabad level tourist packaging. Pack patience with the logistics.
Best for: Second timers. Culture nerds. Anyone bored of Instagram Garba.
5. Mumbai
Not Gujarat. Still valid. Mumbai does polished Navratri. Convention halls, live singers, designer cholis, BKC energy. Delhi girls who want the festival without full Gujarat logistics often land here.
Famous places to go for Garba: Falguni Pathak’s Navratri Utsav at Jio World Convention Centre, BKC is the big name everyone argues about in the group chat. Older school grounds like Kora Kendra (Borivali) and Ghatkopar area nights still run for people who want less BKC, more Bombay community.
How to get passes: BookMyShow the second they go live. Early bird and Phase 1 vanish. Season passes open in phases too. Have UPI ready and do not refresh for thirty minutes while deciding your outfit.
What it costs (this season ballpark):
- Falguni / Jio World single night early bird around ₹2,000, then Phase tickets roughly ₹2,200 to ₹2,700, final phase about ₹3,500
- Season pass phases have sat around ₹16,000 to ₹20,000 depending when you buy
- Group of 5 or 10 packs exist if your whole floor is coming
- Exclusive pod nonsense goes up to about ₹2.04 lakh for 12 people. That is not a Garba tip. That is a LinkedIn story.
Affordable move: One weekday Phase ticket, not Saturday final phase. Or skip Jio entirely and do a suburban ground night if you care more about dancing than the singer drop.
Days in the city: Whatever your usual Mumbai day is. Marine Drive walk, one proper meal, nap hard. The night starts late and ends later.
Do: Stay near the venue if you can. Budget for food and autos like it is a Mumbai weekend, because it is.
Don’t: Call one ticketed BKC night “I did Garba.” You did a very good Mumbai night. That is fine. Just call it what it is.
Best for: Short trips from Delhi. Groups who want singer, lights, soft hotel after.
6. Ambaji
Northern Gujarat, Banaskantha, near the Rajasthan border. Ambaji Temple is the reason people come. Navratri here is aarti, devotees, Shakti energy. Not a season pass dance holiday.
Famous places to go: Ambaji Temple for darshan and aarti. Community Garba and celebrations happen around town, but the temple is the main event. Gabbar Hill if you want the climb and the view.
How to get “passes”: Temple entry is not a BookMyShow product. Follow temple timings, queue rules, and any special Navratri arrangements announced locally. For evening community Garba, ask your hotel or look at local boards when you arrive. Book stay early. Rooms vanish.
What it costs: Darshan itself is not a festival ticket. Budget for travel, modest donations if you choose, prasad, and stay. During Navratri, even simple lodges hike. Shared taxis and buses from Ahmedabad or Abu Road side are the budget route. Flying into Ahmedabad then road up is the soft life route.
Affordable move: Book a basic dharamshala or simple hotel weeks ahead. Travel by train or bus. Keep the trip about the temple, not about matching Vadodara outfit energy.
Days around: Gabbar Hill, Aravalli foothills feel, Balaram Ambaji Wildlife Sanctuary if you have an extra day and the mood is nature not only queues.
Do: Dress modestly. Ask before photographing people mid prayer.
Don’t: Show up expecting a Vadodara farm circle. Wrong trip entirely.
Best for: Family trips. Pilgrimage mood. Mixing faith with the festival calendar.
How to choose without overthinking
- Never done Gujarat Garba? Ahmedabad. Start around ₹100 to ₹500 nights.
- Want the traditional circle people brag about? Vadodara. United if you got in, Navlakhi if you want affordable.
- Want fashion and ticketed nights, still in Gujarat? Surat. Buy singles, not the ₹20k season unless you live there for nine nights.
- Want folk depth and kinder prices? Rajkot.
- Want glam from Delhi in one weekend? Mumbai. Weekday Phase ticket.
- Want temple over dance? Ambaji.
Practical stuff before you book
- Flights: Delhi to Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Mumbai are the easy ones. Rajkot needs more planning. Ambaji is road or train after Ahmedabad or Abu Road.
- Pass apps: BookMyShow, District, Showmates, FastTicket, plus organiser sites (United has its own). Download the app the pass lives in before you leave the hotel.
- Clothes: Chaniya choli or kediyu for traditional grounds. Soft shoes you can dance in for three hours. Dupatta that stays put.
- Stay: Near the ground you booked. “Central and we will Uber” is how Navratri arguments start.
- Days: Three to five nights is enough for one city properly. Two cities only if you are disciplined about travel days.
- Money: Keep UPI and some cash. Food stalls and last minute autos do not care about your aesthetic.
- Honesty check: Pass plus outfit plus stay plus flights is the real budget. A ₹199 night still costs a trip.
After you come back
Log the real trip on Jyurniq while your feet still hurt. Which ground was worth the pass. What the dress code actually enforced. Whether Surat felt more club than circle. The Navratri you lived is better than the Reel you almost made.
Delhi will still do its DJ dandiya next year. That is fine. At least once, go where the circle is the point, not the afterparty.
Now pick a mood, book the pass, pack the choli. Soft bag. Hard yes to leaving Ring Road for nine nights that actually mean something.
