Ladakh With Friends — No Network, No Plans, Just Us & the Mountains

The journey

Ladakh had been sitting on our group-trip list forever.

You know that one destination everyone keeps saying, "Guys, we HAVE to do this together," but nobody actually books anything?

Well... somehow we finally did. 😭

So on 12 August, Kabir, Arjun, Rhea and I packed our bags and headed to Ladakh for what eventually became one of the most memorable road trips we've ever done.

The moment we landed in Leh, we realised this wasn't going to be our usual holiday. The mountains looked completely different from anything we'd seen before—huge, almost empty landscapes, insanely blue skies and roads that seemed to disappear into nowhere.

Our first day was intentionally slow because everyone had warned us about acclimatisation.

For once, four people who usually can't sit still actually listened.

Mostly. 😂

We explored Leh slowly, found a cute café, walked around the market and basically kept saying, "Guys, LOOK at those mountains" every ten minutes.

Then the actual road trip started.

We packed our bags into the car and headed towards **Nubra Valley**, crossing Khardung La on the way.

That drive was honestly something else.

Music playing, windows occasionally coming down despite the freezing air, endless mountain roads and practically no phone network.

And weirdly, nobody missed their phone.

Okay... maybe Rhea did for the first hour. 😭

We stopped constantly.

Sometimes for viewpoints.

Sometimes for chai.

And sometimes because Kabir would randomly announce, "This location is insane, photo toh banti hai."

At this rate, reaching anywhere on time was impossible.

Nubra Valley was completely different from Leh. Seeing sand dunes surrounded by mountains genuinely confused my brain for a minute.

Desert?

In Ladakh?

Obviously we had to try the camel ride.

Arjun spent the entire time pretending he was completely comfortable while his face clearly suggested otherwise. Naturally, the rest of us were extremely supportive...

by laughing at him. 😂

But Pangong Lake was the moment Ladakh completely won me over.

The drive there was long and exhausting, but when that insanely blue water finally appeared between the mountains, everyone just went quiet.

Pictures genuinely don't prepare you for it.

We stayed near Pangong that night, and once it became dark, we stepped outside and looked up.

I've genuinely never seen that many stars.

No city lights.

Barely any noise.

Just freezing air, mountains and a sky full of stars.

We stood outside much longer than we should have considering none of us could properly feel our fingers anymore.

One of my favourite memories wasn't even a famous place.

Somewhere between Nubra and Pangong, we stopped at this tiny roadside place for Maggi and chai.

We were tired, dusty, freezing and had absolutely no idea how much longer the drive was going to take.

And yet all four of us were sitting there laughing like we'd discovered the best restaurant in the world.

That's basically Ladakh.

It makes the simplest things feel special.

By the time we returned to Leh, our car was a mess, everyone looked exhausted, and we'd heard the same playlist approximately forty times.

But nobody wanted the road trip to end.

Eight days of mountains, terrible network, endless drives, roadside chai, stupid jokes and some of my favourite people.

Ladakh wasn't exactly comfortable.

And honestly...

that's probably why I'll remember it forever. 🤍

Favourite memory: Sitting outside near Pangong at night, freezing but refusing to go inside because none of us wanted to stop looking at the stars.
