Three Cities, Four Friends, and a Malaysia Trip We Still Talk About 🇲🇾✨

The journey

Malaysia was one of those trips where we tried to fit completely different kinds of vacations into one week.

City lights?

Yes.

Beaches?

Obviously.

Mountains?

Somehow, also yes. 😭

This trip was me, Rhea, Vihaan and Kabir, and our plan was to cover Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi and Genting Highlands.

Which sounded perfectly manageable while planning it from home.

Once we actually reached Malaysia, we realised we'd basically signed ourselves up for seven days of constantly packing and unpacking.

Still worth it.

We started in Kuala Lumpur, and seeing the Petronas Towers for the first time was one of those moments where everyone automatically took their phone out.

We'd obviously seen them a thousand times online.

Still...

Standing underneath them at night while the entire KL skyline was lit up felt completely different.

Naturally, getting one decent group picture became a project.

Kabir wanted to fit the entire towers into the frame.

Rhea wanted a better angle.

Vihaan was giving photography instructions despite nobody asking.

And I was just standing there wondering why four educated people couldn't take one picture. 😭

KL itself was so much fun to explore.

We walked around Bukit Bintang, discovered random cafés, explored markets and basically planned our days around where we wanted to eat next.

One evening we went to Jalan Alor, and that became an entire event.

We kept ordering things saying:

"Okay, THIS is the last one."

It never was.

There was always another stall.

Another dessert.

Another thing somebody wanted everyone to taste.

At some point, we weren't even hungry anymore. We were just committed. 😂

Then came Genting Highlands.

The drive up from Kuala Lumpur was gorgeous, but the cable car was easily the best part.

As we climbed higher, KL's heat slowly disappeared and suddenly we were surrounded by mountains and clouds.

The temperature change also exposed Kabir, who had confidently said:

"Guys, jacket ki kya zarurat hai?"

Guess who wanted somebody else's jacket twenty minutes later. 😭

We spent the day exploring Genting, trying rides, eating again for absolutely no reason and enjoying the cooler weather before heading back.

And then...

Langkawi.

Honestly, the moment we reached Langkawi, the entire energy of the trip changed.

KL was busy.

Genting was exciting.

Langkawi was just...

slow.

Beaches, palm trees, quiet roads and absolutely no urgency to do anything.

We rented a car to explore the island, which meant Vihaan immediately appointed himself DJ while Kabir became navigator.

This combination should've concerned us more than it did.

We took at least two wrong turns.

But Langkawi is probably one of the best places to get lost because every wrong road somehow leads somewhere pretty. 😂

The Langkawi Sky Bridge was easily one of my favourite experiences.

The cable car going up was incredible, and once we reached the top, the views genuinely didn't look real.

Mountains covered in forest.

Tiny islands scattered across blue water.

Clouds moving around us.

For once, everyone stopped talking.

Again, this group being silent is basically how I measure whether a view is actually impressive.

We also did an island-hopping tour, and that was probably our most chaotic day.

Boat rides.

Beaches.

Way too much sun.

Someone constantly asking whether their phone was safe near the water.

By afternoon, everyone was exhausted but nobody wanted to go back.

Our evenings in Langkawi were my favourite part of Malaysia.

We'd reach Pantai Cenang, find somewhere near the beach, order food and just sit there while the sun went down.

No itinerary discussions.

No alarms.

No rushing to another attraction.

Just four friends talking about completely random things while the sky changed colours.

And somehow, those simple evenings became more memorable than half the places we'd planned months in advance.

On our last night, we sat together trying to decide which part of Malaysia had been the best.

Rhea picked Langkawi.

Vihaan couldn't decide.

Kabir changed his answer approximately three times.

And honestly, I couldn't choose either.

Because that's what made Malaysia so good.

Kuala Lumpur gave us the city.

Genting gave us the mountains.

Langkawi gave us the beaches.

And travelling with these three gave me all the chaos in between. 🤍
