Places to Visit in Manali: Hadimba, Solang, Atal Tunnel & Day Trips

Places to Visit in Manali: Hadimba, Solang, Atal Tunnel & Day Trips

Manali is cedar shade, Beas water, and mountain roads that decide your day. Hadimba anchors the town. Solang and the high passes rewrite it. Old Manali keeps the cafes.

This is a working map: Hadimba and Manu Temple, Old Manali and Mall Road, Beas and Vashisht, Jogini Falls, Solang, Rohtang or Atal Tunnel side when open, Naggar Castle and Jana Falls for a softer heritage loop.

Permits and weather close Rohtang. Check before you romanticise snow.

How to read this place

  • Town: Hadimba, Old Manali, Mall Road, Manu Temple

  • Water & village: Beas, Vashisht, Jogini

  • Adventure belt: Solang, Rohtang, Atal Tunnel

  • Side trip: Naggar, Jana

Hadimba Temple

Wooden pagoda in cedar forest, Manali’s sacred postcard. Soft morning beats tour-bus noon.

Do: Soft morning. Modest dress. Soft shoes on roots and stone.

Old Manali

Cafe lanes, river edge, and a slower backpacker grid. Walk it. Do not drive it for photos.

Do: Soft afternoon into evening. One cafe. Keep bags closed.

Solang Valley

Meadow adventure belt: paragliding seasons, snow play in winter, crowds on weekends.

Do: Soft morning. Book activities with reputable operators. Warm layer.

Rohtang Pass

High snow pass when open and permitted. Weather and quotas rule. Not a casual scooter flex.

Do: Check permits and road status. Soft start. Warm layers.

Atal Tunnel

Engineering cut toward Lahaul side, viewpoint culture at the portal, weather still matters beyond.

Do: Confirm access. Soft daylight visit. Do not invent a full Spiti day without a plan.

Naggar Castle

Wooden castle heritage above the Beas, quieter than Solang theatre. Soft afternoon.

Do: Combine with Jana. Soft shoes.

Jana Waterfall

Pretty fall near Naggar, short outing, monsoon volume.

Do: Soft shoes. Respect barriers.

A practical way to spend 2-4 days

  1. Day 1: Hadimba, Mall, Old Manali evening.

  2. Day 2: Vashisht and Jogini. Beas walk.

  3. Day 3: Solang, and Rohtang/Atal if open.

  4. Day 4: Naggar and Jana.

Food is also a place

Manali eats trout when honest, Tibetan plates, cafe brunches in Old Manali, and simple Himachali meals. Build one warm dinner into cold nights.

Before you go

  • April-June and Oct are popular. Monsoon has landslides. Winter needs serious layers.

  • Rohtang needs permits/status checks. Do not assume daily access.

  • Altitude and sun both burn. Water and sleeves help.

  • Book adventure activities with care.

What to skip if time is tight

If you have one day, protect Hadimba + Old Manali + one valley view, then stop. If roads close, skip Rohtang without guilt. Manali is layered. You are allowed to leave layers for next time.

The best version of this place is cedar shade at Hadimba, and Beas light before the taxis thicken.
