Kerala — From the Backwaters to the Coast

The journey

My journey through Kerala was a beautiful mix of peaceful backwaters, lively city life, coastal views, and unforgettable moments. I explored Alleppey, Kochi, and Varkala, and each place showed me a completely different side of Kerala.

In Alleppey, life felt slower and more peaceful. Cruising through the backwaters on a houseboat, surrounded by coconut trees, green fields, and small villages, was one of the most relaxing experiences of my journey. Watching the scenery move gently past me made me forget the rush of everyday life and enjoy the beauty of the moment.

Kochi brought a different energy. I walked through the historic streets of Fort Kochi, admired the colonial-style buildings, and watched the famous Chinese fishing nets along the coast. The colourful cafés, art-filled streets, and blend of cultures gave the city a unique character. Every corner seemed to carry a piece of history while still feeling lively and modern.

My time in Varkala was all about the sea, cliffs, and peaceful sunsets. Walking along the cliffside, with the ocean stretching endlessly below, was an experience I will always remember. I spent time relaxing near the beach, exploring small cafés, and watching the sky change colours as the sun slowly disappeared into the Arabian Sea.

Travelling through these three places made me realise how diverse Kerala truly is. Alleppey gave me peace, Kochi showed me history and culture, and Varkala offered beautiful coastal moments. Together, they created a journey filled with nature, discovery, relaxation, and memories that stayed with me long after I returned.
